Breastfeeding Management Clinical and Ethical Concerns.Guest Speakers:
Liz Brooks is an IBCLC and a lawyer. Liz has worked as a criminal prosecutor, a Congressional lobbyist and a federal litigator. Her legal expertise is in ethics, lobbying, administrative and criminal law. As an IBCLC, Liz currently works in a variety of settings: private practice offering home visits; in hospital, offering education to breastfeeding mothers and babies in the full-term and NICU nurseries, and providing in-service education to nurses, doctors and midwives; and in a non-profit, community-based breastfeeding clinic. Thus, Liz is familiar with the array of challenges faced by lactation consultants each day.
Marsha Walker is an RN and IBCLC. Marsha has been assisting breastfeeding families in hospital, clinic, and home settings since 1976. Marsha is president of Lactation Associates, a private practice that educates and consults to health care professionals. Marsha is the executive director of the National Alliance for Breastfeeding Advocacy: Research, Education, and Legal Branch (NABA REAL). As such, she advocates for breastfeeding at the state and federal levels. Marsha served as vice-president of the International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA) from 1990-1994 and as president of ILCA in 1999.
